Some lab-on-a-chip operations require controlled temperatures for efficient operation, particularly PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). However, adding the complexity of a regulating circuit puts the expense and complexity out of bounds for disposable use.

To cut this Gordian knot, the principals of Innovomer delivered an integrated self-regulating resistive heater element. Not only was it suitable for the application, the material could be tuned to additional target temperatures during formulation.
