Innovomer is a specialty materials science company located at the University of Nevada Reno Applied Research Facility.  The company develops innovative bio-based and polymeric materials for use in industrial and medical applications and provides consulting services to clients in several market sectors.

Innovomer is spearheaded by Ray F. Stewart; A successful scientist/entrepreneur in the polymer and materials science industries with a passion for creating high-value materials for large market opportunities. Founder of four profitable businesses in the polymer and life sciences. Personally adept at identifying emerging market opportunities and rapidly developing proprietary solutions and working with all stakeholders to build lasting value.

Independent Consultant 2021 – Current (Blairsden, CA)

Assist companies in the areas of materials and product development, intellectual property, and clinical trials.

Owner & Founder Bay Materials, LLC 1999 – 2021 (Fremont, CA)

Founded Bay Materials in 1999 to provide polymer and materials science consulting, intellectual property creation, and product development services to emerging companies primarily in Silicon Valley.

Developed new generation of aligner materials for Align Technology used to treat over 5,000,000 patients, creating a $5 Billion global market for “Invisible Braces”

Provided numerous small and large businesses materials and product development services facilitating new products and services. (Please see listing of patents below.)

Developed and commercialized new aligner material (Zendura FLX) in 2018 which is used by the majority of aligner manufacturers globally.

Bay Materials was self-financed and generated over $35M in annual revenue with very high profit margins.  Acquired by Straumann Group (Switzerland) in 2019.

Founder and V.P. R&D Landec Corporation 1985-2000 (Menlo Park, CA )

Landec Corp. was established to develop commercial application of novel phase change polymers (Intellimer) designed to exhibit step changes in key physical properties based on small temperature changes including adhesion, permeation and chemical activity. Landec was a key player in the development of pre-cut produce through the development of active food packaging films and membranes.

Company initially funded through SBIR grants, venture capital, and non-dilutive licensing and development agreements.  Became a public company in 1996. 

As lead technical person I was responsible for the development of technology, products, and intellectual property leading to multiple products is diverse industries.

Group Leader, Raychem Corporation

As member of Corporate R&D for $500 M polymer technology company spear headed development of plastic electrodes for electrochemical applications including corrosion protection, environmental sensing and water purification.
