Sometimes, ideal storage doesn’t mean keeping things the same.
Problem: Producers of pre-cut fresh produce had limited options for packaging their products such as broccoli, asparagus and strawberries due to their high respiration rates and sensitivity to changes in temperature during shipping.
Solution: Intellimer polymers were used to make very high permeability adhesive patches that adjusted their permeation to carbon dioxide and oxygen in response to temperature allowing customizable, low cost packaging for a wide range of fresh produce. This novel packaging helped fuel the revolution in pre-cut produce which from a few million dollars in 1995 to over US $12Billion in 2022.
